Common questions
What wire size is used for sockets?
2.5 mm² copper with a 16 A breaker. Kitchens usually use 4 mm² with 20 A.
Why use a thicker wire for long distances?
Long wires lose voltage. If the drop is too big, appliances run hot or weak, so we go one size up.
How many wire colours do I need?
Single phase needs three: phase (red), neutral (black) and earth (yellow-green). Three phase uses red, yellow and blue for the phases.
