Common questions

What size breaker do I need for a 1.5 HP AC?

A 16 A breaker with 2.5 mm² copper wire. For a 2.25 HP AC use 20 A with 4 mm², and for 3 HP use 25 A with 4 mm².

Why must the wire match the breaker?

The breaker protects the wire. If the breaker is bigger than the wire can carry, the wire can overheat before the breaker trips — a common cause of electrical fires.

Do I need an earth-leakage switch (RCCB)?

Yes for bathrooms, kitchens, outdoor sockets, water heaters and pumps. A 30 mA RCCB cuts the power in milliseconds if current leaks through a person.
